When it was announced that Matt Damon was returning to the Bourne franchise, after not appearing in the last movie Bourne Legacy, many questioned whether that meant we would see the actor sharing the big screen with Jeremy Renner, who took the lead in that film. Well, it has now been claimed that we will not see the two actors starring together in the new Bourne movie, although it is not necessarily guaranteed.
Executive producer Frank Marshall explained, "We don't have plans for that. You never know. I never say never. But that's not the plan. They're on separate tracks. It was really the challenge of finding the story. If you look back five or six years ago, when we were maybe going on, we just didn't have a story. It's taken this long for us to come up with a story that everybody responded to. Now, we're moving forward."
As well as admitting that it is very unlikely that we will see Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner appearing together in the new Bourne movie, Frank Marshall also went on to talk about getting Paul Greengrass back on board. Frank says that it was important that both Greengrass and Damon felt that the idea was a good one that they could push forward with.
Marshall added, "No, it was about both of them responding to a story idea. Now, we're off and we're going to go write the script and make it." We look forward to learning more about the project over the coming year or so.
The currently untitled, Matt Damon starring Bourne project is currently scheduled to hit the big screen in the US on July 29, 2016.
